Edith M. Nelson, 88, of Somerville, NJ passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Nelson, the former Edith Freund, graduated from Somerville High School where she met her husband, Robert. They were married for 64 years before his passing in 2006.

During World War II, Mrs. Nelson volunteered for the USO in Sheepshead Bay, NY. She was a graduate of the Drake Business School and had been a member of the Centerville Methodist Church where she had been the choir director.

Mrs. Nelson and her husband had owned Shadybrook Farms, Centerville, NJ for 25 years, until their retirement in 1980. In her retirement, Edith was able to pursue her passion for oil painting, boating, and golf. She and her husband had been past members of both the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and Hillsborough Country Club, where Mrs. Nelson once held the title of Women's Golf Champion.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her three loving daughters, Janet Jackson and her husband, Jeffrey of Brick, NJ, Barbara Reddish of Bridgewater, NJ, and Nancy Tepper and her husband, Richard of Neshanic, NJ. Additionally, she is survived by her two granddaughters, Cara Link and husband, Warren of Asbury, NJ and Brooke Millecchia and husband, Matt of Fairport, NY. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Zane Millecchia, Will Millecchia, Christopher Link, Megan Link and Carly Link.

A Prayer Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876 (908) 526-7638. Interment will follow in Neshanic Cemetery, Hillsborough, NJ. Viewing hours will be Friday, February 26, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
